Radiation Detector ( Geiger Counter )  Model  CDV- 717

Being very similar to the CDV-715 Geiger counter I own, this unit is a survey meter that has ranges of .1R/hr to 500R/hr, and  very similar  controls and meter design. The CDV-717 however, has a detachable ionization chamber with several feet of coax cable, as seen in the above right photo. The main reason for this was so you could measure radioactivity levels from a safe distance, specifically from inside of a bomb shelter.
I have read that using the extension cable causes a short delay in the reading, but this is not an issue since the outside radiation levels probably will not change that fast.

I picked up this unit at the 2005 Indianapolis Ham Fest for around $4.00. My unit powers up, but it will mostly be an item for static display.
